My name is James Yang and I’m a self-professed techpreneur®.  I have been a Vancouver resident for more than 35 years, and a Vancity member since 1989.  I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, and an MBA in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from the Sauder School of Business.

Many of my friends have asked what was it that made me decide to run for Vancity’s Board of Directors.  In a nutshell, the catalyst was a change in Vancity’s election process.  By seeking out candidates with experience in finance and technology, the credit union is clearly signaling a need for Directors with those specific skill sets.  I believe that my work experience and education makes me an ideal candidate for the Board.

If elected as a Director, I would contribute immediately by providing the information technology expertise that is necessary for proper governance of current technology renewal projects.  Additionally, as a new Director, I will be able to provide a fresh new perspective and an independent voice to the Board.
